How the CA Coastline Maps the Dealer Cycle

You know those moments where your brain refuses to see things the “normal” way?

That’s me with trading.

For whatever reason, the dealer cycle EMA slope has always looked like the California coastline to me. The curves, the drops, the way it hugs and releases — it just felt like Highway 1 cutting down the edge of the state.

So one day, I thought: why not actually overlay California onto the chart?

And when I did… I see the same behaviors the dealers run showed up right where the cities are- almost every single time.

The Road Trip Down Highway 1 (Dealer Cycle)

Here’s how it plays out:

Outline of California with annotated text and lines mimicking a stock chart. "CA❤️" text above. Various labels like Eureka, San Francisco, L.A.

🌲 Eureka → Trap Zone

“Oh I found the move!”

- No you didn’t.

This is where people get excited way too early.

Dealers set the bait here.

✈️ Redding → The Shift Candle / Fly-through

Market slams the gas, breaking structure. Big move. Exciting.

🏛 Sacramento → Fake Reset / Political Pause

Classic pause. Looks like the cycle’s over, but it’s just a stall. Structure holds. Feels like you missed it. You didn't. Keep going.

🌉 San Francisco → EMA Push Continuation

Smooth and steady momentum. Think Golden Gate glide — strong, clean continuation.

This is where trades feel boring… which usually means they’re working.

🌊 Monterey → Channel Ride

Price hugs the EMAs, riding the slope just like the Monterey Bay curve.

This is that smooth, coast-hugging, don’t-overthink-it section.

You’re not chasing. You’re just riding.

🐢 San Luis Obispo → Mid-Cycle Exhaustion

Things get weird here. Market looks tired. Volume drops. Candles get messy.

People start closing early. Dealers are just redistributing.

🎬 Los Angeles → Hollywood Drama / Dealer Fakeout

Here comes the drama. Big candles. Fake breaks. Emotional chaos.

Retail jumps in thinking “THIS is the move.”

Dealers are literally setting traps at this point. Classic.

🌵 San Diego → Final 4H TDI Popout / Border Completion

This is the end of the road.

Final expansion. TDI popout. If you’re still chasing here… you’re late to the party.

🎲 Vegas & Beyond → The Blowoff & Reset

This is where things get reckless.

Overshoots. Spikes. Random chaos. Then… reset.

Back to Eureka we go.

Why This Works

California naturally flows north to south in three parts:

NorCal = Level 1

Central = Level 2

SoCal = Level 3

It’s the exact rhythm of the dealer cycle.

So when you’re trading, you don’t have to overthink it — you just ask:

Am I still stuck in the Redwoods (Eureka)?

Did I just fly through Redding (shift candle)?

Or are we already hitting the San Diego border (final push)?

That one question keeps you from getting lost.

Try It Yourself

Overlay California on your own chart and watch how the market’s “road trip” lines up.

The dealers may be sneaky, but they’re not as original as they think.

Next time you’re in a trade, ask yourself: Where am I on Highway 1?

Lost in Eureka?

Stalling in Sacramento?

About to blow through San Diego?

The map doesn’t lie — the dealers always drive the same route. 🌊🎲🌴

Your Turn

Screenshot your chart with California overlaid share below. Let’s see if your trade is stuck in the Redwoods or cruising into SoCal.
