How to Set Up Bookmap for EURUSD (Plans, Data and Heatmap Settings)

Oct 8
6 min read

The first time I opened Bookmap, I closed it about ten minutes later and didn’t come back for weeks. I’d watched my trade group use it, so I knew it was worth learning. But one look at that wall of color and I thought, nope, I’m in over my head.

When I finally came back, I realized I’d been a pansy about it. It isn’t complicated. It’s just different from the candlestick charts we’re used to. Once it’s set up, you can see where the big orders are sitting on EURUSD, and that’s worth 30 minutes of clicking through menus.

So here’s how to set up Bookmap for EURUSD, start to finish. You need three things:

  1. The Bookmap software (a paid plan, since the free one won’t cut it)

  2. A real-time CME data feed (it’s separate from the plan, and it’s the part everyone misses)

  3. The 6E chart set up so the heatmap is easy to read and doesn’t just look like static

I’ll walk through all three with screenshots. The prices are what Bookmap listed in October 2026. They change, so double-check before you buy.

Let’s get into it.

Step 1&2: Sign Up

Sign up using email or Google Auth.

Step 3: Download and install

  1. Sign up or buy your plan on bookmap.com. You'll get a verification email with download instructions and your license key. You can also download from the site.

  2. Log into the Bookmap Portal. Under the Get Started tab, download the version for your computer (Windows, Mac or Linux).

  3. Install it and open it. Newer versions ask you to sign up or log in through your browser, and then the app launches.

  4. If it asks for a license key, it's in that email and in the Portal, though I used my email to log in and it updates it automatically when I log in each time. No key needed.

(Keep your license key private. Anyone with it and a copy of Bookmap can use your account.)

Step 4-6: Which Bookmap Plan Do You Need? (Global vs Global+)

For most people starting out, Global is enough. Go with Global+ only if you want to place trades directly from the Bookmap chart.

Plan

No, delayed only

Global

Global+

$99/month, or $79/month billed yearly

Yes

Trading from the chart, plus extra add-ons

Global lets you view up to 10 symbols at once and Global+ allows 20. If you place your trades on your broker or prop firm platform and just use Bookmap to read, Global covers it- that is the one you see me using. Neither plan includes the data feed. That's the next step. Prices can change so check for updates

Step 7&8: Add the CME Data Feed for 6E

This is the part people miss. You must add a data feed. Bookmap is the screen, and the data feed is what shows up on it. Without real-time CME data, 6E won't show up or will be delayed. The single CME feed works for us.

What you get

Single exchange (CME)

$34/month, often $17 for the first month

CME bundle

For EURUSD, you only need the CME exchange. 6E trades on the CME itself. You'd only need the bundle if you also want products on the other exchanges, like gold (COMEX) or crude oil (NYMEX). ES and MES are also on the CME. You can always add other later in your subscriptions and Add ons.

Step 9: Confirm and Pay

Multiple payment options are available. Choose yours, complete checkout and join us back in the home portal.

Now that you are all signed up, lets set up Bookmap.

Find and Open the Bookmap App on your computer.

Step 1. If not logged in, do that now. Use the same email you signed up with and it will auto apply your key code.

Step 2. How to Load 6E (Euro Futures) in Bookmap

Once your data is active, open the Subscribe window in Bookmap and use these settings:

Select the plain 6E, not 06E and not anything ending in V6. It will pull up the current front-month contract on its own, which right now is 6EZ6. If you want to know what those letters and numbers mean and how to check you picked the right one, I wrote a separate post on that: What Does 6EZ6 Mean? Futures Symbols, Made Simple. [add link]

Step 3: Bookmap Heatmap Settings for EURUSD

When 6E first loads, the heatmap can look like a mess of color. The goal of these settings is simple: small, unimportant orders should fade into the background, and only the big orders should light up.

To open the settings, click the contrast slider icon above the chart, or click the studies icon (it looks like a microscope) and choose Heatmap. Both open the same Heatmap settings window.

Trading chart heatmap with green/red bubbles; yellow arrow points to slider at 30, text: Adjust slider. I keep mine around 18.

Add Volume Bars and Volume Dots. These will show you the real time order flow.

Now your chart will look like mine.

Other Configuration Options

Color map. The default goes from black through blue, yellow, orange and red. Keep it. It's what this post and most Bookmap content use, so your screen will match what you're learning from.

Lower cutoff (cleans up the noise). This decides which small orders get pushed to the darkest color. Raise it, and more of the small stuff goes dark, so the background gets cleaner. If your chart looks like static, nudge it up.

Upper cutoff (makes the big orders pop). This decides which orders get the brightest color. At 95%, only the top 5% of order sizes show in the brightest color. Raise it toward 98 or 99% and only the very biggest walls light up. Lower it and more levels look bright. On 6E, I'd start in the mid-90s and adjust from there.

Auto contrast. Bookmap adjusts the contrast for you based on what's in the book. In the Heatmap settings window, click Advanced colour map settings to choose how often it adjusts, including every time the chart recenters. Leave auto on while you're learning.

Vertical smoothing. This is at the bottom of the Heatmap settings window. Set it to Auto. It smooths the heatmap when you zoom out so it doesn't look like stripes, and it stays sharp when you zoom in.

Dimming. This is on the toolbar and darkens the whole heatmap. Turn it up if the colors are too bright to see the bubbles clearly.

Leave these alone for now

  • Aggregate Market Depth. This stacks the orders at each level together with all the levels before it. It's useful for some things, but it changes what the colors mean, so it'll confuse the reading you're learning.

  • Advanced market depth settings. These control how many price levels show and how old levels get reset. The defaults are fine.

Two quick tips

  • Settings save per instrument. Once you've set up 6E, Bookmap uses your most recent settings for new instruments you open. There's also an Apply color scheme globally button that copies your color map and dimming to every open chart.

  • If a setting makes the chart worse, don't panic. Just slide it back. Nothing you change here affects your data or your account.

Bookmap Troubleshooting: 6E Not Showing Up?

  • 6E doesn't show up in the symbol list. Your CME data probably isn't active yet, or you subscribed to a different exchange. Check your data subscription in the Bookmap Portal.

  • The chart loads but the price is way off from EURUSD. You grabbed the wrong instrument. 6E should sit a few pips above spot EURUSD.

  • The heatmap is all one color, or all static. Adjust the lower and upper cutoffs (Step 3) and make sure auto contrast is on.

  • You can see the chart but can't trade from it. That's normal on the Global plan. Trading from the chart needs Global+. You can keep placing trades on your usual platform.

  • Still stuck? Bookmap has a support page and a live Discord.

Once you're set up, the next step is learning to read what you're looking at.

Congrats! You just set up your edge for trading EURUSD. Now head to the post on how to use this incredible tool!

FAQ

  • Is Bookmap free? There’s a free Digital plan, but it only shows delayed futures data. Reading 6E live takes Global ($49/mo) or higher.

  • Does Bookmap include market data? No. The CME feed is a separate subscription, $34/mo for CME alone.

  • What symbol is EURUSD on Bookmap? 6E, the CME euro futures contract. Pick plain 6E and Bookmap loads the front month.

  • Do I need Global+ to use Bookmap? Only if you want to place trades from the chart. Global is enough for reading.
